March 2026 presents a mixed security picture for NCD. Police are demonstrating improved operational responsiveness — the Konedobu arrest of three armed men on 8 March is a notable positive outcome, with plainclothes units operating effectively in the corridor. The Eight Mile Last Block shooting on 3 March remains the most sensitive ongoing matter, with a CID investigation underway and community tensions elevated in the immediate area.

The National Firearms Amnesty, launched 6 March and running to 26 August 2026, represents a significant policy intervention. Early uptake has been modest in NCD but stronger in the Highlands where voluntary surrenders have been recorded in Enga and Western Highlands. This pattern is consistent with previous amnesty cycles and the operational picture is expected to remain elevated until the program concludes. Recommended actions for operators in NCD include increased compound security protocols and avoidance of the Eight Mile corridor after dark.
